Welcome to a new school year at Antigonish Education Centre!
Whether you are returning to AEC or joining us for the first time, we are so glad to have you with us.
At AEC, “Bucket Filling” is something we do every day. Inspired by the book Have You Filled a Bucket Today?, we teach that everyone has an invisible bucket that can be filled with kindness and care. When we help, share a smile, or say something kind, we fill each other’s buckets. These small acts make our school a happier and friendlier place.
This year, we will continue to learn about Ubuntu, a word that means “I am because we are.” Ubuntu reminds us that we are all connected and that how we treat each other
matters. We will also keep building on the Seven Sacred Teachings: Love, Respect,
Courage, Honesty, Wisdom, Humility, and Truth. These teachings guide us in making AEC a safe, welcoming, and respectful school for everyone. We are also connecting this work with the new Provincial School Code of Conduct. This Code helps us create a safe and fair school. It reminds us of four important principles:
• Responsibility: Everyone helps make our school safe and respectful.
• Equity: Every student deserves to be treated fairly and with dignity.
• Restorative Practices: When harm is done, we work to fix it and rebuild
relationships.
• Clarity and Consistency: Expectations are clear and responses are consistent.
These ideas fit well with what we already believe at AEC: a positive and respectful school helps every student succeed.
Our staff is excited to welcome students on Thursday, September 4, 2025. Vice-Principals, Mr. Barker and Ms. Davidson, and I are always here if you have any questions or concerns.
Here’s to a year filled with kindness, respect, and the joy of learning together. Let’s lift each other up through Ubuntu and the Seven Sacred Teachings!
